…which end will you lift on?

WHY “Heavy Lifters?”

The quote above is attributed to missionary William Borden; if you don’t want to scroll up to read it, this is it: “If ten men are carrying a log – nine of them on the little end and one at the heavy end – and you want to help, which end will you lift on?”

Borden was pointing out the imbalance between Christian workers in the U.S. as compared to those serving among unreached peoples. Although the people I will be working with are not defined as “unreached,” I will be working in a city of about 100,000 people, along with six other missionaries. I’d call that “heavy lifting”!

The country in North Africa where I will be working to teach literacy has one of the lowest literacy rates in the world. My work is definitely cut out for me!

Do you want to help lift?
